Silver…
What is silver?
Silver is a metal, which has been used since the early 19th century for its antimicrobial properties. Norwex is unique, compared to other microfiber cloths, in that the silver is at micro technology vs. a nano technology. Although, nano level has its effectiveness, micro silver can be thought of as higher concentrated. The micro-level silver is imbedded into the cloth. It is not just a coating. It will not come out. The organism on the cloth is rendered dead. The DNA is suffocated. With the DNA inactive you cannot get sick. During this process the silver works right away. But it continues to work while it is wet. Norwex has found that after 24hrs there is a 99.9% reduction in organisms. Read interesting facts on silver here https://www.silverinstitute.org/site/silver-in-technology/silver-in-medicine/bandages/
Today we see it used in bandages, catheters, and ointment/ creams. (Just to name a few!)
What does the silver actually do for my home?
Silver will continue to cleanse the cloth. It will function as a self cleansing agent. This will allow your cloths to not get that familiar smell of bacteria as ordinary cloths can acquire.
The silver works in combination with the microfiber to pick up in a way ordinary rags or cloths can not. Leaving a clean surface. The silver will then use its self cleansing agent. Also, this will prevent cross contamination from the cloth to other surfaces. Even your hands while using it.
Is it harmful?
I recently had someone ask me if silver is harmful to our bodies. Norwex Antibac (newly called Bac -lock) combined with the microfiber is safe for the environment. It has been tested and approved by the FDA and EPA. Silver has been used for thousands of years. It has only been during the past century or so, that scientist can identify what is happening while it works. Soldiers in WWI depended on it for their bandages. Silver has become less popular since the use of antibiotics. But it's effectiveness has not changed. In fact, with so many drug resistant organisms I wonder if we will see more of use for it. (The previous nurse in me starts to wonder…).
Why Norwex?
*Norwex uses the silver on a micro level. How we show this is through our swab test. This is the fun part of our Norwex parties where we get those funny looks by rubbing raw chicken on people's counters! Norwex consultants perform this swab test to prove the silver's effectiveness. The swabs, used in health care or food service industries, are tested against raw chicken. After wiping the contaminated area the swabs prove the silver (and microfiber) are at work. What they show is the presence of the bacterial protein where the contaminated area is. Subsequently, no protein after cleansed with a Norwex cloth. Check out this link for more information about the protein. http://microbewiki.kenyon.edu/index.php/Silver_as_an_Antimicrobial_Agent
* There is no need for chemicals. Because of the silver, you do not need any chemicals. ONLY water.
* There is a 2 year warranty. The cloths have a 2 year warranty, if cared for properly. Many cloths last longer than that with their silver still doing its job. A consultant that recently joined went to test her 5 year old cloth with the swabs and her cloth proved to be working!! AMAZING.
* Quality Microfiber. Yes, there are other microfibers. But I guarantee you, not of this quality. The cloths are densely woven. Each microfiber stand is 1/200 the width of hair. So a hair is split 200xs. Specifically in order to be called microfiber it has to be 1.0 denier or smaller. A denier is a unit measurement for linear mass. A single strand of silk is 1 denier. Well, Norwex is 0.14 denier. YES, this is what makes it different from that microfiber you can find at the dollar stores and other household places. It can hold 7Xs its weight in water.
* Save time. You spend less time cleaning when you don't have to run around the house to find different harmful chemicals to spray. Not only that, with all purpose cleaners and vinegar in order for it to do what it should, it needs to sit for at least 10 minutes. With Norwex there is no waiting.
* Save $. You will not need to buy paper towels, cleaners, or replacements for your mop. I can pretty much skip the cleaning isle at the store! Not only that you do not need to launder your cloths every day. You can safely go 5 days (rinsing with warm water) letting them hang in between uses.
*Save your health and the environment. As a previous nurse, I can tell you that your environment can affect your health. It is said that there are over 80,000 chemicals in the world but only 200 have been tested. That means it is unknown what they would do for you or you pets.
WHAT ELSE IS THERE TO KNOW?
You do need to take specific care for the cloths.
1. You may use regular detergent. Preferably Norwex Ultra Power Plus.
2. You may have them in the washer and drier OR hang them.
3. Separate the microfiber from other materials. Only wash it with other microfibers or other Norwex.
4. NO BLEACH
5. NO FABRIC SOFTENER OR DRYER SHEEETS
6. Cloths may be boiled for 10 minutes stubborn stains.
